J L Brierley May 2011

Karl Mayer Creel Close-Up

Turnbridge Mill, Quay Street, Huddersfield

In March 2011 I was commissioned by J L Brierley  of Huddersfield to create a 3-dimensional relief for the main reception area based on photographs of people at work in the textile mill and in the three other companies which are divisions of JL Brierley : SCM Turbos, Hewitt & Booth (whose main product is pipe cleaners), and MJJ who supply arts and crafts materials, mainly for schools.

The final piece is 2.75 metres wide x 1.4 metres high, is made up of 72 box canvases of 3 different depths, and was installed on May 6th 2011.

Unfortunately I do not have a decent enough photograph of the whole piece in situ - the space does not allow a vantage point to properly take it all in. Instead you will see some of the elements which make it up followed by a photograph of the central portion.
